Where do the false Christians point to when condeming homosexuality?
There are two old testament verses most often quoted:
Leviticus 18:22 and 29
22 " 'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. 29 " 'Everyone who does any of these detestable things—such persons must be cut off from their people.
13 " 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
First, these are old testament writings and most laws e.g. animal sacrifice have been superseded by those of the new testament as described in Hebrews and Romans.
Second, lets look at the many other laws in Leviticus and Exodus that the false Christians ignore completely while citing the evils of homosexuality.
Leviticus:
1) You must not eat any fat or any blood. I guess that leaves out bacon. It would also leave out hamburger as it is ground up with various percentages of fat. That would also preclude the eating of steak that was not well done. No more rare, medium rare, or even medium. This verse went on to say, "This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come,.."
2) You must not drink fermented drinks in a church or you will die. This would preclude communion in those churches that serve traditional wine as part of the sacriment. This would also forbid drinking at any social functions while in a church. This verse went on to say, "This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come."
3) You may only eat an animal that has both a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud. That leaves out pigs or pork and rabbits to name a few.
4) You may only eat creatures from the oceans and streams that have both fins and scales. That would leave out lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams, shark, eels, squid (calamari), octopus, snails (escargot) and oysters to name a few.
5) You may not have sex with a woman for seven days after giving birth.
6) A boy must be circumsized on the eighth day.
7) A woman who gives birth to a boy must wait 33 days before she is allowed to touch anything sacred or to enter a church.
8) If a woman gives birth to a daughter, she must wait 80 days before she can touch anything sacred or enter a church.
9) You may not do any work on July 10th. This is a lasting ordinance.
10) Do not steal.
11) Do not lie.
12) Do not deceive one another.
13) Do not pervert justice. Be fair.
14) Do not gossip.
15) Keep your promises.
16) Do not plant a field with two kinds of seed. This prohibits most home gardens and modern day farms.
17) Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material. This prohibits modern undergarments and most other articles of clothing. This would even prohibit 100% cotton clothing sewn with nylon thread.
18) Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. Where are all of the hippies?
19) No tatoos.
20) Do not curse your mother or father or you must be put to death.
21) Do not commit adultery. The man and woman must be put to death.
22) Do not have sexual relations with a woman during her period.
23) Priests may not mary a prositute or a woman who has been divorced.
24) If a priest's daughter becomes a prostitute, she must be burned in a fire.
25) A priest who has been anointed must not enter a place where there is a dead body.
26) A priest must only marry a virgin.
27) You may not work on the seventh day.
28) From January 15 to the 22, you may not eat bread made with yeast.
29) If you take a human life, you must be put to death. This includes the killing of abortion doctors.
30) If you injure your neighbor, the same must be done to you. An eye-for-an-eye.
Exodus:
1) You can buy a Hebrew servant who may serve you for six years before you put him out into the street.
2) A man may sell his daughter as a servant but she is not to be set free as a man servant. Why should females have the same rights as men? And so what that you sell your your daughter into slavery.
3) Anyone who curses his mother or father must be put to death. Who hasn't cursed their parents at one time or another. Guess this would be a good form of population control.
4) It is okay to beat your slave as long as the slave does not die as the master owns the slave. The master shall not be punished.
5) If you work on the Sabbath, you must be put to death.
6) Do not light fires in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath. Guess it's okay to let your children freeze to death in the winter.
These are some of the many laws listed in the old testament. Clearly, if you insist that the laws governing homosexuality still apply today, then you must also hold all of the other laws to be true.
How many false Christians do you know that abide by the old testament laws in their entirety?
There is one new testament verse frequently cited:
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (Worldwide English Version):
9 Do you not know that bad people will have no part in the kingdom where God rules? Do not be fooled. There are some people who will not have part in that place. They are those who commit adultery of any kind, those who have idols, 10 or steal, or are always wanting more, or talk wrong things about people, or drink plenty of strong drink, or take things by force, or curse.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (New International Version):
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Of the 36 most popular translations of the Bible, 25% make no specific reference to homosexuality. Of far more importance in these biblical writings was the emphasis placed on the worshipping of idols, adultery, stealing, and being a drunkard. Also receiving honorable mention were fornicators, slanderers, the greedy, the immoral, extortioners, robbers and the unrighteous. According to the scripture, they too will be forbidden to inherit the kingdom of God.
What God cares about is what's in your heart. Accept Christ and love Him with all of your heart and soul. That's what truely matters. The false Christians are NOT the ones who will decide your salvation. That will be left to God.
